Group Interview FAQs

The group interview is a 30-45 minute conversation and small project with 4-5 other EWMBA applicants. Each team is randomly assigned. You will introduce yourselves, then participate in a case activity with your teammates. We won’t be asking questions, but instead observing how you interact with your group. After you complete your group interview, you’ll go into a one-on-one conversation with a member of the admissions committee for approximately 20 minutes.

The group interview will include a mini case study, which is built on our MBA classes. The one page case study will be the basis for a discussion with other participants. You will have time to read and think about the case study and then will be given a set of guiding questions to generate discussion. In addition to helping us, the mini case discussion will give you a taste of what you would experience in the classroom.

We are evaluating each candidate individually within their group, observing how they think about data, interact, and problem-solve with others.

We are looking for your problem-solving and leadership skills - the same things we look for in our one-to-one interviews - just in a small group environment. Research shows that the group setting is actually a better way to determine these characteristics, which is part of what we are testing in this new approach. There is no singular definition for what it means to be a collaborative teammate. No preparation is needed for the group interview.

If you did not do as well as you had hoped in the group interview, this does not mean you will be denied admission. The application review process is holistic, which means there is no singular application component, such as the group interview, that will make or break your chances of admission.

We are questioning the status quo with the traditional individual interview process. Our new group interviews provide the opportunity to gauge a candidate’s teamwork and problem-solving skills. It also provides us with valuable insight as we continue to develop and refine our admissions processes.
