Video Interview

In line with the Defining Leadership Principles, our admissions office continues to Question the Status Quo by piloting a new component of the application for the Evening & Weekend MBA Program. We are implementing two short video questions in lieu of in-person interviews.

Our new video interview provides the opportunity to ensure each candidate receives a very similar interview experience, which aids us in reducing unconscious bias in our admissions process. We are using the video interview to get to know you better outside of a written essay template. We also hope it is more convenient for those candidates who are applying from outside of the Bay Area.

For each question, you will have 1-2 minutes of response time. One question will be based on your desire to attend Haas and the other one will focus on leadership. You will complete the video interview post submission of your application. We will provide a link to the video interview in 1-2 days after you have submitted your application.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Why is the Evening & Weekend MBA Program replacing in-person interviews with a video interview?

Our new video interview provides the opportunity to ensure each candidate receives a very similar interview experience, which aids us in reducing unconscious bias in our admissions process. We are using the video interview to get to know you better outside of a written essay template. We also hope it is more convenient for those candidates who are applying from outside of the Bay Area.

When in the application process will I complete the video interview?

You will complete the video interview AFTER you submit your application.

How many video questions do I have to answer and what is the length of each answer?

You will have two video questions to answer and 1-2 minutes of time to respond to each question. One question will be based on your desire to attend Haas and the other one will focus on leadership.

How much time will I have to record my video interview?

You will have 7 days from when you receive the interview invitation email to complete and submit your video interview. Yet, we encourage you to complete it shortly after receiving your instructions, while your application is still top of mind.

How many chances will I have to record my answers?

Once you launch your official interview you will have only one opportunity to answer each question. Unfortunately, there is NOT an option to redo the official responses. You will, however, have the opportunity to answer practice questions to get you familiar with the system. If you finish answering the questions before your allotted time expires, you can end the recording early.

What is the admissions team looking for in the video interview?

We are looking for your fit with the Haas community and leadership potential - similar to what we look for in our previous one-to-one interviews. We prefer that candidates provide authentic answers versus rehearsed or read from notes. Try to use this video interview to highlight your fit for Haas and future leadership potential with details that you may not have already included in other parts of your application.

Is there a dress requirement for the video interviews?

No, we expect each applicant to use good judgement regarding what they wear. Business casual is completely acceptable, and keep in mind we will only be seeing your head and shoulders anyway!

Where should I record my video interview?

Wherever you are most comfortable, as long as you have a reliable internet connection in a quiet environment and no distractions.

Will there still be any in-person interviews?

No applicant will have an in-person interview. Some applicants may receive a follow up phone call to clarify any questions the admissions committee has about their application materials; however, this is on a case-by-case basis. If an applicant receives a follow up phone call, it is not an indication of the strength of their application.

If I do poorly during the video interview, will I be denied admission to the program?

If you did not do as well as you had hoped during your video interview, this does not mean you will be denied admission. The application review process is holistic, which means there is no singular application component, such as the video interview, that will make or break your chances of admission.
