Life in the EWMBA Program
By Kim Anderson, MBA 07

Monday: I'm in the office by 6:00 a.m. to check the news before the market opens. I spend the morning talking through favorite stock picks and walking through earnings models with clients. After the market closes, I exchange e-mails with my International Finance study group and take one last read through our case study on international joint ventures. After dinner with my fiancé, I sit down to work on homework for Taxes & Firm Strategy before heading to bed by 9:00 p.m.

Tuesday: I get into the office by 4:00 a.m. to talk with our sales force in New York. After spending the day talking to clients, I finish reading about foreign exchange hedging and hit the road by 4:30 p.m. to head to Berkeley for International Finance, one of my favorite classes. We have two guest speakers in class tonight, both investment bankers focused on international transactions, who engage my classmates and me in a fascinating and interactive discussion. After class, I head home to San Francisco.

Wednesday: I spend the morning talking with clients and finishing up a report, then take one final glance through my Taxes & Firm Strategy homework before heading over the Bay Bridge in late afternoon. I catch a bite for dinner on campus with some classmates and head to my tax class, where we talk about the requirements for a tax-free merger and apply it to a case study.

Thursday: I head down to Silicon Valley with my manager and several buy-side clients to meet with senior management at one of the companies we cover. I write up a summary of the meeting and then head home by 6:00 p.m. After walking the dog and cooking dinner with my fiancé, I sit down to read my International Finance case, pondering the project finance challenges of the Three Gorges Dam in China.

Friday: After a work day spent analyzing market share trends and catching up on industry news, I dial into my International Finance group's weekly call to discuss the Three Gorges Dam case. We come to a consensus, then divide the questions between the three of us, and agree to another call Saturday afternoon. I head home by 7:00 p.m. to eat dinner and relax.

The Weekend: In between writing up my case for International Finance, participating in a class conference call, and reading for my tax class, I make the most of my free time by taking a walk in Golden Gate Park and sailing on the Bay.
