Mastering the Fundamentals

Even with a solid background in finance, Paul Lee says that, after two years in the Haas Evening & Weekend MBA Program, he understands concepts at a much deeper level. "My knowledge base is so much broader. The core classes really rounded out and complemented my skill set."
Paul puts his newfound knowledge to work on the job. "I use the skills I learned in Professor Anderson's Negotiations class every day with clients and in my personal life. And now that I've taken Behavioral Finance with Professor Odean, I recognize some of the behavior I've seen among clients. Being able to understand these things is really amazing and immediately relevant."

Paul's involvement with the Finance, Marketing, and Consulting Clubs, and his participation in case competitions, give him other opportunities to put his class work into practice. "The competitions are fun and exciting. You have to adapt constantly to the team dynamic and leverage everyone's strengths and weaknesses." That collaborative environment is one of the things Paul likes best about Haas. "We all are trying to take each other to the next level," he says.

In his third year, Paul hopes to join the International Business Development program in Brazil over winter break. "I did a project on Brazil in my first-year Macroeconomics class," he recalls. "Being able to go there and see how things work on the ground will really tie it together. Having the opportunity to do that is a real advantage at Haas."
