Preparing to Learn: Case Study and Camaraderie
The core curriculum at Haas begins with a new student orientation and concludes with an academic retreat. These required off-campus events use a format that is lively and intense to introduce you to Haas and to prepare you for the next phase of your MBA education.
New Student Orientation
You'll get to know other new students and gain a sense of what the classroom experience will hold -- as well as have fun -- at the mandatory weekend orientation for incoming Evening & Weekend MBA students. Held every August near the Berkeley campus, the orientation features team-building exercises and lectures and workshops on special topics.
As an introduction to the case study method that will feature prominently in your coursework at Haas, you will tackle real-life and hypothetical business challenges from various companies. You will also begin to build relationships with your fellow classmates that will last a lifetime. "The spirited debates over case studies whetted everyone's appetite for future class discussions," says Melissa Selcher, MBA 07. "As I left orientation, I was convinced my mind would be stretched in new ways -- and I found that notion exhilarating."
