Deep Insights for Turbulent Times

Several Haas professors were key voices predicting and analyzing the recent economic turbulence.

Professor Nancy Wallace's research served as an early warning, determining that Wall Street banks and bond-rating agencies were underestimating the risk of many new mortgage- and asset-backed securities.
Dwight Jaffee has done extensive research on the operations of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

Recent Awards

Haas faculty members continue to garner academic and industry recognition as leaders in their fields.

Oliver E. Williamson was awarded the 2009 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences. He is the 21st nobel laureate among UC Berkeley's faculty.
Henry Chesbrough was honored this year as one of the top 50 authors in the field of technology and innovation management by the International Associate of Management of Technology.
J. Miguel Villas-Boas was named the first recipient of the Long-Term Impact Award from the INFORMS Society for Marketing Science for changing the way marketers view data and consumer choice.
Barry Staw and David Vogel were both recognized by the Academy of Management, Staw with the 2008 Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the field of organizational behavior, and Vogel with the Social Issues in management Division Best Book Award 2008 for his book The Market for Virtue: The Potential and Limits of Corporate Social Responsibility.
Waverly Ding was awarded the highly competitive nationwide Kauffman Junior Faculty Fellowship in Entrepreneurship Research from the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation.

More than 50 Years of Great Ideas The California Management Review (CMR), published by the Haas School, is one of the leading management journals of its kind, serving as a nexus between those who study management and those who practice it. CMR, which celebrated its 50th year in 2007, publishes research-based articles that address issues of current concern to managers.

2009 Nobel Laureate in Economic Sciences

Haas Professor Emeritus Oliver E. Williamson was awarded the 2009 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences "for his analysis of economic governance, especially the boundaries of the firm."
