Evening & Weekend MBA Program
Putting Haas Skills to Work at Chevron
"I just love the Berkeley atmosphere and the camaraderie among the students. In some ways, it reminds me of the Chevron culture, which is very open and sharing too," says Ritu Pathak, who used her Berkeley MBA experience to make a career move within Chevron from technology into global marketing.
She is one of several Chevron staff members enrolled in the Haas School's Evening & Weekend MBA Program. They credit their studies with broadening their career horizons and adding depth to their approach to business.
"Thanks to my classes, when I am drafting an agreement-say for the launch of a new service-I have much more insight into the business drivers and the issues that will be important to the company," says Eliane Setton.
Anita Balaraman, a toxicologist with a public health background, says she is "impressed by the caliber of Berkeley MBA students. Having classmates who have worked in ad agencies or nonprofits is part of the education experience. Everyone shares knowledge so freely."
Onyinye Ebo finds herself more confident in seeking out new connections at Chevron after completing her core classes. "People’s ears perk up when they hear that I'm in the Berkeley MBA program. It has great credibility."
Says Ed Lai, "The emphasis on leadership and innovation at Haas is the perfect preparation for working in companies in transition like Chevron. We have to learn to execute change quickly and to be receptive to new ideas. My MBA studies have helped me better understand how to do those things on the job."
