nucleicacid5 (Oct 22, 2008 2:00:25 PM) Good afternoon, are there different criteria for the EW program vs. the fulltime program?

Admissions_Molly (Oct 22, 2008 2:00:25 PM) Hello. The applications are different so the criteria is slightly different.

egellerman (Oct 22, 2008 2:00:35 PM) How difficult is it to transfer from the EWMBA program to the full time program after your first year? And are EWMBA students able to participate in the Bridge program during the summer?

Admissions_Tammy (Oct 22, 2008 2:00:35 PM) Hello egellerman! Transferring from the EWMBA Program to the Full-time Program is on a space available basis, and you must complete an application to do so. Historically, we've had maybe 2-3 students do this in the past few years.

Ram (Oct 22, 2008 2:02:08 PM) To join the program, is taking GMAT necessary?

Admissions_Molly (Oct 22, 2008 2:02:08 PM) Ram, yes, the GMAT is required.

al08 (Oct 22, 2008 2:02:59 PM) Is there any difference between applying in Round 1 or Round 2?

Admissions_Tammy (Oct 22, 2008 2:02:59 PM) Hello al08! We usually admit the same percentage of applicants from both rounds. The advantage to round 1 includes being able to take your prerequisites after knowing your admissions decision, as well as first pick of cohort preference.

ck (Oct 22, 2008 2:03:17 PM) How much schedule flexibility is there in the program? If for personal or work reasons I need to take a term off, is that possible?

Admissions_Sarah (Oct 22, 2008 2:03:17 PM) Hi ck, taking a term off would be at the discretion of the program director of the Evening & Weekend program.

Praveen Chandran (Oct 22, 2008 2:03:47 PM) In the application, there are a couple of questions that ask us about the details of the recommenders and relationship to the recommenders (e.g. direct supervisor) . Are we expected to provide just the relevant details or do we provide verbiage explaining the relationship in detail?

Admissions_Molly (Oct 22, 2008 2:03:47 PM) Please provide the relevant details for the Admissions Committee to understand your choice of recommenders and your relationship to them.

Emily (Oct 22, 2008 2:04:13 PM) Hi, my company has recently announced that they will be laying off approximately 10% of the workforce within the next few months. If I should lose my job during this time frame (I am applying to round 1) , would I still be eligible to apply for the part time program?

Admissions_Molly (Oct 22, 2008 2:04:13 PM) Yes, you are welcome to apply.

tiff (Oct 22, 2008 2:04:33 PM) Hello Admissions, for the letters of recommendation, who should those come from?

Admissions_Sarah (Oct 22, 2008 2:04:33 PM) tiff, letters of recommendation should come from your current or former direct supervisor.

Praveen Chandran (Oct 22, 2008 2:05:37 PM) In the application, it is mentioned that the applicants should send only the documents that are requested by the admissions committee. I have a few appreciation letters from senior management in the last three years that I feel would help my candidacy a lot. Would it affect my candidacy in a negative sense if I send these letters along with other documents?

Admissions_Molly (Oct 22, 2008 2:05:37 PM) Praveen, please send relevant materials for the application.

nucleicacid5 (Oct 22, 2008 2:06:11 PM) I am an employee of the state of California and I noticed that most students come from private industries, will working for the gov't effect my chances of admissions?

Admissions_Molly (Oct 22, 2008 2:06:11 PM) We welcome applicants from all industries and backgrounds.

Jay Niklaus (Oct 22, 2008 2:06:52 PM) Hello. How does Haas Admissions view a candidate application, if the candidate wants to make a career shift from Engineering to Finance.

Admissions_Molly (Oct 22, 2008 2:06:52 PM) We take your goals into consideration to make sure you understand why an MBA is for you.

ck (Oct 22, 2008 2:07:08 PM) How difficult is it to switch between weekend cohort and the evening cohort?

Admissions_Sarah (Oct 22, 2008 2:07:09 PM) ck, after the first year of core courses is completed, you may choose electives in either the evening or weekend schedule.

Ram (Oct 22, 2008 2:07:28 PM) Is there an option to take certain number of credits only each year/semester?

Admissions_Tammy (Oct 22, 2008 2:07:29 PM) Ram - during your 1st year, you are required to take 17 units of core requirements with your assigned cohort. During your 2nd and 3rd years, you will take the remaining 25 units of electives and you can spread those courses out to included summer classes, international business seminars, etc.

Praveen Chandran (Oct 22, 2008 2:08:01 PM) I am an international applicant. I have been residing in US for the past 5 years. Do I still need TOEFL for the application to be complete? Also, I do have my original degree certificates and relevant documents with me but I will have to go to my home country to get the degree certificates bonafide by the university. Would it be acceptable if I send photocopies of the certificates without any University stamping and proceed to submit the original copies when required?

Admissions_Molly (Oct 22, 2008 2:08:34 PM) If you have not completed any graduate work in the US then you will need to take the TOEFL or IELTS. Regarding your transcripts, a copy is ok to send with your application. If you are admitted our Graduate Division requires the originals.<

egellerman (Oct 22, 2008 2:09:21 PM) If you are not accepted during the first round of applicants, is it possible to re-apply with additional materials during the second round?

Admissions_Sarah (Oct 22, 2008 2:09:21 PM) No, you may apply once per year.

tiff (Oct 22, 2008 2:09:32 PM) Hello, who should the letters of recommendation come from?

Admissions_Tammy (Oct 22, 2008 2:09:32 PM) tiff - We strongly prefer that both letters come from a current or former employer. The title or status of those you select is not important. What does matter is how closely your letter writers have worked with you and whether they can attest to your value as an employee, your professional accomplishments, and your personal qualities. We discourage letters of recommendation from co-workers, subordinates, professors, family or friends.

Tom (Oct 22, 2008 2:09:34 PM) For students who have a degree in a specific discipline, Organizational Behavior, is the OB class in the Masters program still required?

Admissions_Molly (Oct 22, 2008 2:09:34 PM) Yes.

al08 (Oct 22, 2008 2:10:42 PM) Are community services and activities weighted heavily for the application? Same weight as full time program?

Admissions_Tammy (Oct 22, 2008 2:10:42 PM) al08 - Extracurricular activities are an important factor in your application, as it gives the Admissions Committee some insight into who you are and your interests.

TonyH (Oct 22, 2008 2:11:19 PM) Hello and thank you for taking the time to chat with us. Do I still need to submit a transcript if I graduated from Haas as an undergrad?

Admissions_Elisabeth (Oct 22, 2008 2:11:19 PM) Tony H - Yes. We still need a transcript.

nucleicacid5 (Oct 22, 2008 2:11:25 PM) I work fulltime and go to school, can I use letters of recommendation from instructors or do I need to get them strictly from my immediate supervisor at work

Admissions_Tammy (Oct 22, 2008 2:11:25 PM) We strongly prefer that both letters come from a current or former employer. Select individuals who know you well, and who will take the time to write thorough, detailed letters: preferably a supervisor or other individuals with whom you have had considerable professional interaction. We discourage letters of recommendation from co-workers, subordinates, professors, family or friends.

tiff (Oct 22, 2008 2:12:02 PM) Is the EWMBA (specifically the weekend program) offered each year?

Admissions_Sarah (Oct 22, 2008 2:12:02 PM) tiff - Yes, a new EWMBA class is chosen for each Fall.

al08 (Oct 22, 2008 2:12:05 PM) do we have to provide a reason for not asking the current supervisor for recommendation?

Admissions_Tammy (Oct 22, 2008 2:12:05 PM) al08 - You should obtain one of the recommendations from your current direct supervisor. If you do not provide a letter from your current direct supervisor, you are required to include an explanation in the Supplementary Data section of the online application.

Talley (Oct 22, 2008 2:12:41 PM) How important is the GMAT Math score?

Admissions_Molly (Oct 22, 2008 2:12:41 PM) We look at all sections of the GMAT. All sections are important.

PK
(Oct 22, 2008 2:13:42 PM) Do you look at credit history as well when making admission decisions? I am contemplating short-selling my house and I am worried if that will negatively impact my admission if my credit score is not great

Admissions_Molly (Oct 22, 2008 2:13:42 PM) No, we don't look at credit history for admissions. If you are applying for financial aid your credit history may be reviewed if you are taking out loans.

egellerman (Oct 22, 2008 2:14:32 PM) Thank you for answering my previous question. I was wondering if it's possible for EWMBA students to participate in the summer Bridge international program with the full time students?

Admissions_Sarah (Oct 22, 2008 2:14:32 PM) EWMBA students can participate in the International Business seminar, more information can be found at this link: http://ewmba.haas.berkeley.edu/academic_6.html

Dbo
(Oct 22, 2008 2:15:41 PM) How long is the Weekend program? Is it possible to finish within 2 years?

Admissions_Molly (Oct 22, 2008 2:15:41 PM) Both the Weekend and Evening MBA programs are designed for 3 years or 6 semesters. Some students finish it in 2 1/2 years or 5 semesters.

apurva sharma (Oct 22, 2008 2:16:05 PM) Does an advanced degree also count as work experience?

Admissions_Molly (Oct 22, 2008 2:16:05 PM) No, we look at your advanced degree as part of your education.

ck (Oct 22, 2008 2:16:22 PM) Is there flexibility in year 2 and 3 to take a smaller load the complete the entire program in say 4 years?

Admissions_Tammy (Oct 22, 2008 2:16:22 PM) ck - Extending the program beyond the 3 years is up to the discretion of the Executive Director of the EWMBA Program Office.

halleck (Oct 22, 2008 2:16:33 PM) Do you expect admissions to be significantly more competitive this year due to the global financial crisis?

Admissions_Molly (Oct 22, 2008 2:16:33 PM) That's a great question - we really don't know how the financial crisis will impact us.

Jay Niklaus (Oct 22, 2008 2:17:31 PM) Apart from my regular job, I have done extensive work in volunteering in US on behalf of my volunteer organization. Other than getting on LOR from my direct supervisor, can I request my volunteer organizations supervisor to write a recommendation for me as he knows my leadership skills in volunteer activities in and out

Admissions_Molly (Oct 22, 2008 2:17:31 PM) Yes, you may.

Praveen Chandran (Oct 22, 2008 2:17:54 PM) When is the statistics waiver exam likely to be conducted?

Admissions_Sarah (Oct 22, 2008 2:17:54 PM) Waiver exams will be held from January through May 2009, once per month. Schedules will be available for sign up beginning in January.

MBAbound (Oct 22, 2008 2:18:04 PM) If I am invited for an interview, is that an indication that I have a very good chance of being accepted into the MBA program?

Admissions_Molly (Oct 22, 2008 2:18:04 PM) We interview two thirds of our applicants, so an interview is a good sign.

tiff (Oct 22, 2008 2:18:12 PM) It is my understanding that there are 2 math prereqs; college level math and stats. What's meant by college level math?

Admissions_Tammy (Oct 22, 2008 2:18:12 PM) tiff - College-level math courses usually include calculus. You can find a list of approved courses here: http://ewmba.haas.berkeley.edu/PrereqClassList.pdf

investor (Oct 22, 2008 2:19:23 PM) I will not be taking my GMAT until November 22nd, can my application be submitted before I take the test?

Admissions_Tammy (Oct 22, 2008 2:19:23 PM) investor - You cannot submit your application without a GMAT score. If you take the GMAT on November 22, your application would have to be considered for Round 2 (deadline of March 2) .

MBAbound (Oct 22, 2008 2:19:32 PM) Can I apply to the executive MBA program and the evening and weekend program, or am I allowed to apply to only one program?

Admissions_Sarah (Oct 22, 2008 2:19:32 PM) You may only apply to one graduate level program per year per the Graduate Division.

Maureen (Oct 22, 2008 2:20:11 PM) I am an employee of University of California. My understanding is that as a UC employee, my tuition is discounted for some UC programs-- is the EWMBA program one of them?

Admissions_Elisabeth (Oct 22, 2008 2:20:11 PM) Maureen, unfortunately no.

Oski (Oct 22, 2008 2:20:12 PM) The application asks us to list our employment history (i.e. past positions and titles) . What if I am getting promoted in February. Can I put this down if my recommender direct supervisor confirms it?

Admissions_Molly (Oct 22, 2008 2:20:12 PM) You can mention it and give us an updated resume when the promotion comes through. You should still write your current position in the work history.

haas09 (Oct 22, 2008 2:21:17 PM) Hi Sarah. Does less than 8 yrs of experience for a part-time MBA (say 4.5 yrs) have a detrimental effect (provided all other attributes are avg) ?

Admissions_Sarah (Oct 22, 2008 2:21:17 PM) haas09, 8 years of work experience is an average of current students. To be a competitive applicant, we recommend that you have 3-4 years.

Vincent
(Oct 22, 2008 2:21:23 PM) Hi I'm a reapplicant and was unable to get feedback. How does one gather the most pertinent information to be successful?

Admissions_Molly (Oct 22, 2008 2:21:23 PM) Vincent, we suggest that you review the profile and get a sense of how you compare to those stats.

al08 (Oct 22, 2008 2:21:45 PM) Thanks for answering my question, to follow up on the round 1, round 2 question, you said same % is being accepted but do both rounds accept about the same # of candidates?

Admissions_Tammy (Oct 22, 2008 2:21:45 PM) al08 - We see a larger number of applications in Round 2, but the admittance rate has historically been the same.

Praveen Chandran (Oct 22, 2008 2:22:20 PM) I am planning to apply in the first round. I would probably have to travel abroad for an assignment for three weeks starting the last week of January. If there is any additional information required from me during this time, can I request the admissions board to have all communications sent through email so that I can still respond when I am abroad? If there is a delay in communication due to my travel, would that affect my candidacy in any way?

Admissions_Molly (Oct 22, 2008 2:22:20 PM) Praveen, once you submit your application you can send us an email with this information. It will not impact your candidacy.

Tom (Oct 22, 2008 2:23:07 PM) How are older adults evaluated in comparison to students who went straight to college and are just finishing their Bachelors?

Admissions_Molly (Oct 22, 2008 2:23:07 PM) Tom, most of our students have about 8 years of work experience. We evaluate all applicants based on their professional accomplishments.

nucleicacid5 (Oct 22, 2008 2:23:37 PM) I currently am carrying an 3.3 gpa cumulative, is this part of the acceptable median for the mba program?

Admissions_Sarah (Oct 22, 2008 2:23:37 PM) We do not have a minimum gpa requirement for applying to the EWMBA program.

egellerman (Oct 22, 2008 2:24:03 PM) If someone has a GPA on the lower end, is there anything they can do to strengthen their application such as taking additional classes?

Admissions_Molly (Oct 22, 2008 2:24:03 PM) Your GMAT is another indicator of your ability to be successful in the program. You may want to consider taking one or both pre-requisites (math and stats) .

PK (Oct 22, 2008 2:24:43 PM) How important is to have "managerial" experience (with direct reports) when you weigh in candidates for EWMBA admissions?

Admissions_Molly (Oct 22, 2008 2:24:43 PM) We are looking for leadership potential. Not all of our successful candidates have direct management experience.

vignesh41 (Oct 22, 2008 2:24:43 PM) Is it alright for me to collect the sealed official transcripts from my undergraduate/graduate institutions and send them to Berkeley myself? This is so that I can be sure that all of the material reach UC Berkeley.

Admissions_Tammy (Oct 22, 2008 2:24:43 PM) vignesh41 - Yes, you can collect all of your sealed transcripts and send them in one envelope. We actually prefer that as makes it easier for us to get them into your application file.

halleck

Admissions_Elisabeth (Oct 22, 2008 2:24:49 PM) halleck - the middle 80% of our students score between 640 and 750 on the GMAT.

apurva sharma (Oct 22, 2008 2:25:31 PM) I am doubtful to make it for 2009. When will the 2010 application come online/in effect?

Iman (Oct 22, 2008 2:26:02 PM) Not sure if this has been asked before, but is there a difference between applying in Nov as opposed to March?

Admissions_Tammy (Oct 22, 2008 2:26:02 PM) Iman - We usually admit the same percentage of applicants from both rounds. The advantage to round 1 includes being able to take your prerequisites after knowing your admissions decision, as well as first pick of cohort preference.

Oski (Oct 22, 2008 2:27:40 PM) Is there a limit to the # of times we can take the waiver exams?

Admissions_Sarah (Oct 22, 2008 2:27:40 PM) You may only take the waiver exam once.

Gaston (Oct 22, 2008 2:27:48 PM) What's the acceptance rate?

Admissions_Tammy (Oct 22, 2008 2:27:48 PM) Gaston - Historically, we have admitted 1/3 of all applicants. Last year, we had 853 applications and admitted 242. Our target class size is 240.

Sid (Oct 22, 2008 2:28:13 PM) Hello, Is the faculty entirely different between Full time/EWMBA and Berkeley-Columbia program?

Admissions_Molly (Oct 22, 2008 2:28:13 PM) No, we share many of the same faculty members.

Jay Niklaus (Oct 22, 2008 2:28:21 PM) If I am right, if we score above 80 percentile on GMAT math, we don't need to take the math prerequisites or the math waiver exam, right?

Admissions_Molly (Oct 22, 2008 2:28:21 PM) Correct.

Agni (Oct 22, 2008 2:29:32 PM) Do you accept college level math courses from community colleges in the Bay area as prerequisites or do we need to get them from Berkeley Extension?

Admissions_Sarah (Oct 22, 2008 2:29:32 PM) You can take the prerequisites from either a community college or UCB Extension. Please find more information about the prerequisites (including a list of courses) on our website at http://www.haas.berkeley.edu/EWMBA/HPP.html

Juli (Oct 22, 2008 2:30:00 PM) Is the EWMBA specifically designed for a particular type of candidate (e.g. "fast track") ? Are there students who non-Executive-bound/non-fast-track who opt for the EWMBA simply so that they can continue to make an income while earning their degree?

Admissions_Molly (Oct 22, 2008 2:30:00 PM) We have a variety of people with a variety of goals. It is not specifically designed for any one type of student.

rajesh(Oct 22, 2008 2:30:23 PM) If you are admitted and if you are not able to enroll this year, is there any possibility to defer the admission to next year?

Admissions_Sarah (Oct 22, 2008 2:30:23 PM) Our policy is that we do not grant deferrals. Should you decline our offer for Fall 2009, but wish to be considered for Fall 2010, you would need to reapply to the program.

mowghli (Oct 22, 2008 2:31:06 PM) This time the Berkeley essay seems a little more personal about family and background influences. What is the application committee trying to gauge and what would be a suitable approach?

Admissions_Molly (Oct 22, 2008 2:31:06 PM) We are trying to learn about who you are as a person beyond your work and academics. It's an opportunity to provide another dimension of yourself.

Gaston (Oct 22, 2008 2:31:21 PM) What is the admission rate in past years?

Admissions_Molly (Oct 22, 2008 2:31:21 PM) Last year we had 853 applications and 242 enrolled.

tiff (Oct 22, 2008 2:32:14 PM) What's the average GPA of admitted MBA students?

Admissions_Molly (Oct 22, 2008 2:33:00 PM) Students have used Kaplan, Test Pundit, Princeton Review. I don't recommend any one in particular. I have heard others use private tutors.

haas09 (Oct 22, 2008 2:33:13 PM) Can taking GMAT the fourth time (and increasing the score to level that is closer to the mean score) be looked upon negatively by the adcom?

Admissions_Molly (Oct 22, 2008 2:33:13 PM) No, we take your highest score.

apurva sharma (Oct 22, 2008 2:33:19 PM) For MBA pursuants who want to work in technology companies, what kind of alumni and job-search relationships does berkeley have?

Awi (Oct 22, 2008 2:33:49 PM) I have a MS from a US university and a bachelors from a university in India. Which GPA do you look at?

Admissions_Tammy (Oct 22, 2008 2:33:49 PM) Awi - We ask that applicants do not calculate your GPA from international universities. The Admissions Committee is familiar with assessing marksheets from India.

Vincent (Oct 22, 2008 2:34:10 PM) I am planning to reapply for the second time (3rd time) , will this hold negative against your application or will it be considered as a fresh application?

Admissions_Molly (Oct 22, 2008 2:34:10 PM) We consider your application as new each year.

tiff (Oct 22, 2008 2:34:15 PM) Are they any scholarships offered for MBA students?

Gaston (Oct 22, 2008 2:34:54 PM) For GMAT, do you take in consideration the fact that a student came from a country where English is not studied as a 2nd language like most the countries out there?

Admissions_Molly (Oct 22, 2008 2:34:54 PM) Yes we do but this program requires strong English skills.

vignesh41 (Oct 22, 2008 2:35:18 PM) I had applied to UC Berkeley for a different graduate program a few years ago. How much will the outcome of that application decision be factored in my EWMBA application decision now?

Admissions_Tammy (Oct 22, 2008 2:35:18 PM) vignesh41 - If you didn't apply for another MBA program here at Haas, the Admissions Committee will actually not know that you even applied for another graduate program at Berkeley.

Admissions_Sarah (Oct 22, 2008 2:35:48 PM) Applicants applying in round 1, November 17, 2008, will be notified of decisions on March 13, 2009. Applicants who submit completed applications in round 2, by March 2, 2009, will be notified on May 29, 2009.

al08 (Oct 22, 2008 2:36:20 PM) Just wonder are all classes academic based on some classes or programs (i.e. international seminars) are project based, so we actually get to work with companies outside of school to build a semester-long project?

Admissions_Molly (Oct 22, 2008 2:36:20 PM) You can participate in several experiential learning opportunities such as the Haas@Work program, Board Fellows, you can work with a faculty member to do a group or independent project.

Thomas (Oct 22, 2008 2:36:46 PM) I'm getting 1 reco letter from my current supervisor. I'm not getting my 2nd reco letter from my previous supervisor. Do I need to explain the reasons for the latter in my essays?

Admissions_Tammy (Oct 22, 2008 2:36:46 PM) Good question, as long as one of your letters is from your current supervisor, no explanation is necessary for your second letter.

(Oct 22, 2008 2:50:56 PM) I was reporting to a manager for last five years until March of this year when he moved to a different department. I already got the recommendation letter from him. And I also got other recommendation from one of my clients. My current supervisor is still in transition mode and is not in a position to access my accomplishments. Given my situation, is this OK to not get a recommendation form my current supervisor?

Admissions_Molly (Oct 22, 2008 2:50:56 PM) If you work for a supervisor for less than 6 months and have not been evaluated by them, then it is ok to get another recommender.

jp (Oct 22, 2008 2:56:02 PM) hi, for the 11/17 deadline, are all the documents like transcripts expected to be received at your office by that date? Or am I ok as long as I have submitted my online application and my documents are postmarked by 11/17?

Admissions_Tammy (Oct 22, 2008 2:56:02 PM) As long as your application is submitted by 11/17 and your supplementary materials are postmarked by that date, your application will be considered on-time.

ss (Oct 22, 2008 2:57:04 PM) I am not sure if this is right question. I heard that candidates are also evaluated based on their background. Coming from India - GMAT score of 700 might be tight due to similar applicants in the pool. And the same score would be considered exceptional, if candidate is from a different country...Does this apply to Haas as well?

Admissions_Molly (Oct 22, 2008 2:57:04 PM) AdCom chooses the best overall candidates. We do not have quotas or numbers for any countries.

tiff (Oct 22, 2008 2:57:54 PM) Is the waitlist for students whose applications are a little weak, or is the waitlist there simply because the program is full?

Admissions_Molly (Oct 22, 2008 2:57:54 PM) Waitlist is for applications who may be admitted.

maymaj (Oct 22, 2008 2:58:02 PM) Can my international transcripts come in late?

Admissions_Tammy (Oct 22, 2008 2:58:02 PM) We expect to have all transcripts in our office by the application deadline or shortly thereafter (postmarked by the deadline) . If your international transcripts come in significantly later that the deadline, we will not be able to evaluate your application. Please keep in mind, we can accept copies from international institutions, and if recommended for admission, at that time we will need to see official copies.

Awi (Oct 22, 2008 2:58:50 PM) I have a 710 on GMAT with 88 percentile quant and 82 percentile verbal. I have a 4.0 GPA from my MS but my undergrad GPA isn't very good. Does it matter given that my recent GPA and scores have been good and do I need to explain my low GPA in undergrad?

Admissions_Molly (Oct 22, 2008 2:58:50 PM) It's helpful for AdCom to understand your undergrad GPA.

Abhi (Oct 22, 2008 2:58:51 PM) What part of the application can we talk about our academic achievements such as university topper, undergraduate extra curricular work etc

Admissions_Molly (Oct 22, 2008 2:59:57 PM) 95% do receive their cohort choice. I don't know of anyone who didn't attend because of not getting their cohort.

apurva sharma (Oct 22, 2008 3:00:01 PM) Will I be able to see the complete transcript of this chat once the chat session is terminated? Will it be posted somewhere on the web?

Admissions_Tammy (Oct 22, 2008 3:00:01 PM) Yes! We will post the transcript within the next few days.

rajesh(Oct 22, 2008 3:00:37 PM) Is the course more classroom based / discussion based? How do you give grades in your courses?

Admissions_Molly (Oct 22, 2008 3:00:37 PM) Both depend on the course and the professor. Core courses have some lecture and there are team projects in most classes.

Admissions_Sarah (Oct 22, 2008 3:00:54 PM) Some courses are cross-listed, so in your 2nd and 3rd years, you may choose a course cross-listed with full-time, for example.

Admissions_Elisabeth (Oct 22, 2008 3:01:10 PM) Hi all! Thank you for joining us. The chat will be wrapping up in a few minutes. We greatly appreciate your questions. We apologize for not getting to everyone. Please check back on our website next week for a transcript of today's chat and for future chat dates. Molly, Tammy, Sarah and I will continue to address some questions already in the cue, but we will not be forwarding additional questions.

Admissions_Sarah (Oct 22, 2008 3:03:37 PM) Thank you all for joining us! To listen to our admissions and student podcasts; http://ewmba.haas.berkeley.edu/media_popup.html

ss (Oct 22, 2008 3:03:39 PM) Hello - I live and work in Los Angeles. My company also has offices in LA and SFO. Even tough I stay in LA, can I choose evening cohort? If I get selected I will arrange to move to bay area. Can you please clarify?

Admissions_Tammy (Oct 22, 2008 3:03:39 PM) Your preference of cohort does not have any effect on your application. We have many students who commute from LA and other states even.

PK (Oct 22, 2008 3:05:28 PM) I did my Masters at Berkeley and took some courses offered by Haas at that time. That was about 6 years ago. Will you consider those grades to extrapolate how a applicant would do in the MBA program?

Admissions_Tammy (Oct 22, 2008 3:05:28 PM) Yes, and taking those courses shows you dedication to preparing for an MBA.
