Evening & Weekend MBA Program

Tops in Technology

In recognition of the pervasive impact of technology on business, the Berkeley MBA program emphasizes the study of technology through its curriculum and through a variety of special programs. Popular electives explore technology and its effects, including High Technology Marketing Management, Customer (and Business) Development in High-Tech Enterprise, Biotechnology, and Managing Innovation and Change. Faculty members, such as Professor Henry Chesbrough, who authored two leading books on innovation, are influential researchers in the area of technology and business.

At Haas, much of this scholarly effort takes place within the Fisher Center for the Strategic Use of Information Technology, which supports inquiry into areas such as marketing, supply chain management, and e-commerce. Many of the research efforts of faculty are spun off regularly into new courses ñ a key benefit of a research-oriented business school.

The Haas School's proximity to Silicon Valley strengthens connections to the high-tech community. Faculty members frequently invite local executives to be guest lecturers in their courses and to partner with them in research projects. Numerous student groups with a focus on technology thrive on campus: the Haas Healthcare and BioBusiness Club, Berkeley Nanotechnology Club, Digital Media & Entertainment Club, and the Haas Technology Club. These groups organize career-oriented activities with local firms and host special events, such as the Digital Media Conference and the Berkeley Nanotechnology Forum. Both conferences feature leading scientists, executives, entrepreneurs, and academics, as well as provide forums to showcase potential startups and new technologies.

Many Evening & Weekend MBA students at the Haas School of Business already work in the heart of the biotech and high-tech industries. As Berkeley MBA students, they are able to broaden their understanding of how technology companies work, while students from other sectors learn how technology redefines traditional roles in any type of organization.
